As I write this letter to you, cheer tryouts are EXACTLY one week away! However, you’re reading this on the night before your actual try-outs. Don’t you just love being able to schedule posts? Yeah, me too! Well anyway, I just felt the need to send some positive vibes your way and to remind you why you’re doing this.
From the moment you were itty bitty, you loved cheer. You liked watching me cheer and you liked learning. When you first started the youth league cheer you were only 7 but you’d loved it as if you’d done it all your life.
I’ve always loved watching you on the sidelines cheering, watching you have fun and get into the chants, cheers and dances. Your face lights up with so much joy, even when it’s blazing hot outside and you feel like you’re gonna pass out!
No matter what happens, I’m tremendously proud of you! You’ve worked very hard over the last two months in preparation for tomorrow! You truly have made such an amazing amount of progress and I cannot wait to see where you go from here.
Ideally, we’d like for you to the make the team. I want you to experience the bond and all the fun memories I got to have at your age, too; I know you’d love it. But, it won’t be the end of the world if you don’t make it. It might sting a little but you’ll move forward from it. Who knows, it might be motivation to prepare for try-outs even better for the following year!
The possibilities are endless but it all lies in your hands, in your control. Remind yourself why you’re doing this. You love the sport. You love supporting and cheering on the football players. You love going to the games and having fun with your squadmates! You love getting the crowd involved and feeling apart of something bigger than just yourself.
You have to want this. You have to really want to make the team in order to know you’ve done your best! I don’t expect perfection but if it happens, cool! If not, as long as you’ve tried your best, I’ll be happy!
I know mom wants to see you on the sidelines next year and so do I, but just know that we love you no matter the outcome. We’re proud of you either way and hey, who knows what’ll happen tomorrow but maybe we can sucker dad into letting us go out to eat! ;)
I love you a bunch, a bunch, a bunch! Go out there tomorrow and be loud, have condfidence and have fun! You’ve got this, good luck!
